An Immersive Locomotive Simulator

Train Sim World is an immersive first-person simulation video game that takes you aboard highly-realistic locomotives from different parts of the world and gives you control over their journeys. Offering complete in-cab interactivity, accurate detail on trains, and real-world routes, this is a simulation experience that’s perfect for train fans. You’ll be playing as the conductor in this game, first and foremost, and the trails will not be that easy.

All Aboard

Train Sim World offers a breathtakingly authentic collection of railroad machines for you to try out. As the conductor, you need to take into account your train’s system of controls—balancing your brake pressure, controlling your speed, and managing refueling times are just a few of the hard work you need to put in to make sure all goes well in your trips. The game’s Journeys feature will guide you through over 24 real hours of scenarios, tutorials, and service timetables for each route, and you’ll have a progress tracker with you to check all the railway jobs available for you to complete on your way to becoming a railroad master.

Spare No Expense

Train Sim World is best known for its stunning graphics, capturing the real-world essence of luxury trains and hardened trains from all over the world and condensing them all into one beautiful-looking game. This game delights fans because it accurately recreates not only the appearance of actual train designs in real life, but also under-the-hood physics, cabs, control desks, sounds, and even the feel of the trains themselves. The routes you’ll be taking exist in real life, as well, and this simulation will make you feel as if you were actually there. No route is the same—some are on rough terrain while others have to traverse complicated systems of railways—but that’s part of what will challenge you to be the best at conducting.

High Maintenance

For all its glamor, lots of people mistake Train Sim World as a type of building game for trains and tracks, and unfortunately, this is where Train Sim World falters. Despite the constant promises of the developers to add in an editor feature, it has never come for years, so you shouldn’t expect too much and just stick to what Train Sim World offers. There’s also the problem of very short routes that are mostly available in paid DLCs and tons of unfixed bugs that may annoy you, so it’s best to get this game in a bundle. The ultra-defined graphics will also require a high-end PC, so if yours isn’t up to par, you’ll have to sacrifice some of those details.

Not the Train Editor You Want

As a train experience simulator, Train Sim World does brilliantly on its own. It has realistic physics that will make you realize it is definitely not easy being a train conductor. However, you shouldn’t expect much else outside of this role for this game. It has a good amount of annoying quirks that people who are looking for more will find such a let-down. If you just love the feeling of riding trains and seeing the sights, however, this is a good recommendation.
